What is the WLI?

The Wildcat Leadership Institute (WLI) is a program of the Associated Students of California State University, Chico. The WLI inspires, enhances, and recognizes leadership experiences for members of our campus community.  We serve as a bridge between academic, co-curricular, and employment experiences that prepare participants to lead on campus, in our community, and in the workplace.  Through creation, collaboration, and promotion, we connect participants to valuable, relevant, inspiring, and diverse leadership experiences to enhance their Chico Experience.  To read about the variety of programs offered to achieve this mission, visit our website

What You’ll Do

The Program Director is responsible for the development, delivery, and assessment of leadership programs for students and, on a limited basis, some professional staff. Collaborates with AS and the University’s Student Life and Leadership staff to develop a comprehensive slate of leadership components. Guides the event management functions of the Institute and coordinates workshops, conferences, speakers, internships and work experiences to develop leadership skills. Supervises student leadership programs including the Freshman Leadership Opportunity (FLO), LeadCat and all other program and Institute certificate programs.

Who Are You?


  • Three (3) to five (5) years of full-time, progressive experience in student affairs, student union or student leadership development (or equivalent). Experience to include general knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience in supervising staff required.
  • One (1) year of experience may be substituted with a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel Administration, Student Development, Educational Leadership or equivalent (with emphasis in student affairs). To qualify, the Master’s degree must include a one-year assistantship. Remaining experience required in full-time capacity as noted above.
  • Experience managing a university leadership development program preferred.


  • Bachelors’ degree in any field required.
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel Administration, Student Development, Educational Leadership or equivalent preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • Possession or ability to obtain a current and valid California Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with Associated Students. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current Associated Students employees who apply for the position.
