DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM SUMMARY
KAZU 90.3 FM is a public radio station licensed to the University Corporation at Monterey Bay and is located on the CSUMB Campus.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Membership Director, reporting to the General Manager and working in collaboration with the KAZU team, oversees the membership program for KAZU, including overseeing the monthly sustainer donation program, direct and email fundraising efforts, on-air membership drives, telefundraising, matching gifts, car donations, and any other donations not considered underwriting revenue. The Membership Director designs, implements, and evaluates KAZU’s membership activities, identifying opportunities to improve member acquisition, retention, revenue growth, and member services. This position will develop and manage long and short-term fundraising strategies. The incumbent will also lead station processes for data integrity to ensure accuracy and efficiency, including gift entry, constituent management, data health, and reporting for Blackbaud Luminate, NXT, and Raiser’s Edge.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct and manage all Membership Services and Fundraising activities. Manage and select membership benefits and ensure timely distribution of thank you premiums by coordinating with external vendor on inventory and fulfillment. Plan, promote, and execute member events such as Major Donor Salon Events and other Membership station benefits for donors. Provide effective customer service and assist members with making gifts, updating payment information, and answering questions about KAZU. Update the database accordingly.
Contact donors regarding declined and expired credit cards and ACH returns for resolution. Manage solicitation, collection, and recording of all direct mail donations and online donations in accordance with policies outlined by IRS, Auditors, and Corporation Accounting. Oversee fundraising recordkeeping systems ensuring data accuracy, donor privacy, receipting, and recognition. Write and edit well-crafted solicitations, tax receipts, donor correspondence, and other communication materials in support of the station’s fundraising activities. Develop and coordinate direct mail campaigns with external vendor. Review messaging, prepare and provide mailing lists and suppression lists and source codes. Generate coordinating appeals in database and update recipient records accordingly.
Serve as project manager with external call center: coordinate pre- and post- drive meetings, update scripts, write FAQs, generate and upload break schedule, export membership data file from Raiser’s Edge and upload to call center site, answer call center questions, and with University IT, transfer phone line. Assist General Manager in compiling and submitting reporting requirements, such as EEO Reports to FCC, fundraising reports to University Advancement and the CSU Chancellor’s Office, and other fundraising reports as needed to track performance against goals. Coordinate and oversee the successful implementation of all on-air pledge drives: recruit and schedule on-air talent and volunteers, draft scripts for pledge breaks, select premiums, update website and donation forms, create emails, coordinate pledge schedule with staff, serve as on-air talent when needed, work with call center, track and report on drive success throughout campaign. Build and maintain donation forms, email campaigns and messages, surveys, event calendars, and other user engagement opportunities using Luminate Online and other web platforms. Run reports and interpret audience analytics.
Ensure data integrity and compliance with data security standards. Thoroughly document standard operating procedures. Train, supervise and guide the membership team, including student interns, in accordance with policies and procedures. Troubleshoot technical issues. Provide support and problem-solving assistance to the KAZU team. Monitor industry trends and changes in membership and Blackbaud platforms. Apply learnings. Research best practices for long-term and short-term fundraising strategies. Plan and execute donor-related, in-person and virtual events related to membership development. Assist and serve as back-up to the Business Manager including preparation of deposit slips for all revenue received and other tasks as needed
OTHER FUNCTIONS
Contributes to the overall success of KAZU by performing all other duties as assigned. Promotes and maintains an atmosphere of excellent internal and external customer service within the program and campus community. Attends workshops, conferences, and meetings as needed. Represents KAZU at station events as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

WORK LOCATION
Hybrid Position: 75% minimum in-office/on-site following the initial training period. Position location may change based on CSU expectations and department needs

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Experience working with diverse and multicultural populations and the ability to guide student interns of diverse backgrounds to higher levels of skill development. Ability to manage complex projects, work independently as well as collaboratively, and complete tasks on time. Ability to evaluate and understand all aspects of the membership software. Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and organizational skills. Ability to present clear and concise information orally and in written reports. Ability to apply independent judgment, discretion, and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough, and creative solutions. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with administration, faculty, student, and community partners. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of working with and managing volunteers. Demonstrated proficiency working with word processing, spreadsheet, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge and / or Luminate Online software platforms. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university AND minimum 1 year of experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge, Net Community and/or Luminate database management software platforms preferred.
Other experience that demonstrates the requisite skills and abilities, may be substituted for required education on a year-by-year basis.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core values of mutual respect, collaboration and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional excellence. Prior experience working in a fundraising or development organization.
Public radio and experience working with volunteers. Experience using Raiser’s Edge.

The hiring range for this position is $66,000 – $84,000/yr

Grade range: $56,045 – $84,067/yr
