Under the direction of the Aztec Aquaplex Manager, the Aztec Aquaplex Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the management, programming and daily operations of the Aztec Aquaplex and SDSU’s recreational tennis court facility. This includes but is not limited to the development and implementation of aquatics classes, lessons and informal recreation programs and special events, tennis programming, staff hiring, training, scheduling and supervision, Lifeguard Certification and WSI class instruction, point of sale operations, student development, risk management and assisting with oversight of pump room operations, maintenance and repair.

This is a regular, full-time position. Flexibility and willingness to work long and irregular hours and days, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed by event schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Functions
- Develops and implements aquatics programming including, swimming lessons, classes, special events and informal recreation
- Supervises all programs and ensuring that they are conducted in accordance with established and approved rules and regulations that address participant safety as a high priority; ensuring that participants are properly registered and instructors are prepared
- Ensures all programs are designed to accommodate beginning, intermediate and advanced participants, as well as individuals with varying levels of knowledge and expertise
- Evaluates programs and recommends improvements and innovations to enhance program operations for effectiveness and efficiency
- Works in cooperation with the University’s Exercise and Nutritional Science (ENS) department, assists with instructional swimming classes and adaptive aquatics activities as part of ENS credit classes offered
- Works with other departments in Aztec Recreation to assist with the coordination of aquatic-based sport clubs, intramural sports, fitness classes and other activities
- Works with other departments in Aztec Recreation to assist with the coordination of tennis-based sport clubs, intramural sports, classes and special events
- Cooperates with other campus departments such as Housing, Exercise and Nutritional Sciences and Athletics during the summer months to host various youth day camps, swim camps and special programs
- Additional responsibilities include administration, budget, facility management, marketing, safety, staff management as well as customer service and collaboration.
- Bachelor’s degree required in Recreation Administration, Exercise Science, Sports Management or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in supervising aquatic facility operations, program development, facility and equipment maintenance, staff supervision, and scheduling of a large multi-pool facility desired.
- Minimum four years of pool lifeguarding experience required
- Evidence of outstanding leadership and accomplishments in an aquatic environment desired
- CPR for Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED certification required
- Water Safety Instructor authorization
- Lifeguard Training certificate
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certificate
- Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification
- Sexual Harassment Prevention for Supervisors
- Data Security & Privacy
- Gender Awareness Training
