The Position
San Diego State University’s Department of Development has a culture of collaboration, communication, and dedication which has resulted in significant successes. We are actively searching for a dynamic individual to join our talented team as the Chief Financial Officer for The Campanile Foundation. With a dual reporting line, the Chief Financial Officer reports to both the Vice President for University Relations and Development who is also The Campanile Foundation’s President and Chief Executive Officer and the Associate Executive Director for Finance and Operations and the Chief Financial Officer for the SDSU Research Foundation. The Chief Financial Officer works in a high volume, high complexity organizational setting with $270 million in assets. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of The Campanile Foundation plays an integral role. The CFO has the responsibility for overseeing The Campanile Foundation’s financial resources, the integrity of its financial systems, and the management of its investment portfolio and works closely with the Office of Business and Finance in coordinating financial activities.
The Candidate
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a relevant field, a minimum of 10 years of related, extensive and increasingly responsible experience in a broad range of fiscal managerial assignments. The ideal candidate will have proven knowledge and experience in all facets of fiscal management including: generally accepted accounting principles, FASB and CAE gift reporting standards, business principles and techniques of administration, organization, and management to include an in-depth understanding of the key business issues that exist in the development non-profit industry, applicable regulatory and reporting requirements, and charitable trust and gift annuity administration. Ideal candidate will also have the ability to thrive in an environment of change, demonstrated ability to make complex decisions, problem-solve and serve as an effective team member, a high degree of commitment to higher education and philanthropy, ability to handle competing priorities in a complex development environment, ability to represent San Diego State University in a positive manner on campus and with external constituencies and must have the ability to travel and attend off-campus appointments and events. May be required to attend events or perform duties outside of normal work hours.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred; CPA is highly desirable.
