ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Functions
- Develops and implements facility and equipment repair and maintenance tasks based on priority
- Ensures compliance with MBAC, City of San Diego, County of San Diego, and university policies and procedures
- Completes accurate record-keeping for all repairs, service, and maintenance of equipment
- Assists in providing on-site facility and program supervision
- Communicates equipment and facility issues and changes as they arise
- Ensures safety and security practices are followed for all MBAC participants, customers, and guests. Provides immediate response to emergency situations and communicates appropriately with EMS and supervisor. Formulates and submits written incident reports immediately after situations occur
- Coordinates the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of Maintenance Assistants and Maintenance Program Assistant to complete repair and maintenance tasks
- Supervises all daily operational functions of MBAC when assigned as “duty person” including assisting customers with equipment use, handling and reporting customer and employee accidents, opening and closing building, and other operational functions as needed
- Assists in conducting staff orientations and safety training
- Additional responsibilities include administration, customer service & collaboration, safety and staff management
Equipment and Facility Maintenance and Repair
- Performs repair and maintenance tasks to ensure MBAC equipment and facilities are working properly
- Ensures review and completion of repair reports. Monitors the progress of necessary work and prioritizes work as needed and reports to the MBAC Director on updated work priorities
- Conducts regular and frequent inspections of equipment and facilities and immediately addresses discrepancies with cleanliness, overall maintenance, and safety concerns. Reports discrepancies to MBAC Director and/or the appropriate MBAC Supervisor
- Coordinates repair and maintenance tasks with contractors when needed including inspection of the work completed
- Coordinates and maintains compliance with inspectors and safety officers
- Ensures regular walk through of the facilities and inspections of all equipment to ensure maintenance is performed in a timely manner
- Ensures appropriate planned and preventive maintenance programs are designed, budgeted, and conducted for all equipment and facilities
- Competes weekly facility inspections with janitorial services contactor
- Ensures the adequate maintenance and appearance of the MBAC facility and equipment
Minimum Requirements
Education:
- Four year degree from an accredited college or university preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
- Four years of experience in supervising the maintenance of marine equipment and a marine oriented facility preferred
- Four years of experience in marine engine repairs and maintenance required
- Knowledge of fiberglass repair, marine inboard and outboard engines, marine electronics, sailboat repair, and marine maintenance required
- Experience supervising and training staff preferred
- Experience in ordering parts and working with parts manuals and vendors required
- Experience in marine facility maintenance and operations preferred
- Six years of experience in boat handling and operation of sail and power boats preferred
- Demonstrated experience serving a diverse population of customers preferred
- Experience working in a university environment preferred
- Experience with the needs and requirements of patrons with disabilities and experience with ADA guidelines preferred
License & Certification Requirements
- Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding certification and USCG Captain’s license or US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling certification (certifications may be obtained within first month of employment)

COMPENSATION Starting Range: $21.63 – $24.04, per hour, Non-Exempt

This is a regular, full-time position. Flexibility and willingness to work long and irregular hours and days, including early mornings, evenings, and some weekends.
